01.21.08 | start of another year
2008!
some amazing things have been going on this year already! I am currently in Panama City performing and teaching at the jazz festival down here. It was kind of Danilo Perez to invite the Monk Institute to be apart of this festival. Teaching was amazing! the students are so full of life and so happy to us! as we are so happy to be here!
I am happy to report some very great things coming up this year!

I will be doing some great gigs in New York with some great friends.

The 55 bar on Jan. 10th with John Escreet's new quartet featuring Ben van Gelder, Matt Brewer, John, and myself. I am very excited to see where this music goes!

The Jazz Gallery on Feb 21st with Ben van Gelder quartet. This is going to be a very special night for myself and long time friend Ben. This will feature some of my favorite musicians. Ambrose Akinmusire on Trumpet, and Ben Street on bass. We will be playing some new music from ben. Please come out to this one if you can.

Also have some gigs coming up in New Orleans with Maria Neckam!!!!!!!
we will be at the famous Dragons Den on March 9th. Other gigs are being set up right now so be on the look out. Till then check out Maria at www.myspace.com/marianeckam, or www.marianeckam.com!

As far as summer plans go..........

I will be living and working in New York City...

A tour is looking good with Ben Van Gelder may 20-30th to Europe featuring out trio with Gavin Fallow on Bass. Please be on the look out for those dates

Also some work with John Scofeild is in the works. I had the pleasure to work with John a few weeks ago at the Monk Institute. John and I had a great time playing and are planning on doing some more very soon! I am so excited to be apart of his music!

hope everyone is well and at peace with everyone

PEACE!

07.28.07 | Summer Tour Coming to a Close
Well,
it is July 18th. I am currently in Doncaster, England...Currently touring with the amazing pianist John Escreet. We have done several gigs in the UK. I have just finished a tour in spain and small countries outside of it with a band led by Gabrial Riesco. I have to say that tour was a lot of fun, aside from the fact that my cymbals were stolen and my suitcase was lost by British Airways. Spain is a very crazy country...Watch out. But the music was beautiful and I really learned a lot about life and the road...things I learned
1. dont fly through london heathrow aiport if possible

2. dont ever leave your cymbals in a car where they can be seen. (even if you pack the car and go into the club to get paid...anything can happen in 5 minutes)

3. Bass players!!! dont ever fly Air France with your bass. they will hate you from the minute you check in... 650 Euros to check your bass. From more info. and a sad story talk to my homie Peter Spear.

4. Eat all the amazing food you can!!!!

aside from the laughs and the struggles...life is a beautiful thing and I have really enjoyed myself this summer and still trying to spead the love of this universal language around the world...

what to look forward to........

I am moving to new orleans in less than a month...

I will be traveling with Terence Blanchard, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter...not to mention an amazing group at the Monk Institute...I will be sure to update my site more often about travels and experinces....

A record is in the works...One of my own projects which will come together soon.

and a record with my main man Ben Van Gelder (which will feature some amazing people)

Peace

Colin
